Known as the “Sunshine City”, the city of Laoag in northern Luzon is more than just an urban center. Bordering the South China Sea, it offers majestic sand dunes, rolling hills and picturesque lakes. Laoag is also steeped in history, with grand 17th-century churches, and was a trade hub long before the Spanish era, with merchants from China and Japan passing through. Ilocos  Norte’s sand  dunes have been declared a National Geological Monument by the National Committee on Geological Sciences.

Paoay Church

Also known as the Church of St Augustine, this late-17th-century church is one of the country’s grandest and a Unesco World Heritage Site. Its walls, which are made from coral stones and bricks, blend Javanese and Baroque architectural influences. The distinguishing feature is the bell tower which was used as a lookout post by locals during the Philippine Revolution from 1896
to 1898.

Where to Dine & Drink
