Fifth Avenue

Arguably the ultimate spot for window shopping in the world, this storied avenue offers views of stunning jewels from Cartier and Bulgari and designer labels such as Gucci, Armani and Louis Vuitton. Rockefeller Center, Saks Fifth Avenue and the New York Public Library — with the stone lions Patience and Fortitude flanking its front entrance — are also located along this stretch.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

Founded in 1870 to bring art to the New York public, the Met’s considerable collection (more than two million works are housed here) includes iconic works such as Henri Matisse’s 1912 piece Nasturtiums With the Painting “Dance” and Vincent Van Gogh’s Madame Roulin and Her Baby from 1888. Fold in the Cantor Rooftop Garden Bar to your visit, and it’s easy to spend a long, leisurely day — or two — at the Met.

Where to Dine & Drink

Mr. C Seaport

Opened by brothers Ignazio and Maggio Cipriani, this snazzy new red-brick boutique hotel in Lower Manhattan ticks all the boxes for serious hotel snobs. White marbled bathrooms with gray accents? Check. Handmade Italian furniture? Check. Terrace dining right next to the Brooklyn Bridge? Check. Guests can hop to Bellini restaurant for a hearty dinner of spaghetti with sea urchin. The hotel is also a short walk to Wall Street’s charging bull and the ferry to the Statue of Liberty.

The Breakers

The worn-out pink-splashed walls make this Williamsburg haunt seem as if it’s been around for decades, but this cocktail bar is brand new. The Breakers aims to bring back the 1980s surfer vibe to thirsty Brooklynites – think neon- colored skateboards affixed to the walls and a psychedelic- patterned floor that beckons people to dance. In keeping with its casual vibe, it’s all draft cocktails here, with the classics, including Sex on the Beach and Singapore Sling, on tap.
