Vicky Marchadesch seeks and sells unique items for the home

Whether it’s in expressing her personal style or picking merchandise to showcase in the online fashion retail store Seek The Uniq, Vicky Marchadesch subscribes to one mantra: “Nothing in my world matches. Everything in my world clashes.”

It’s easily a recipe for chaos, but when this smart and exuberant 50-year-old puts things together, like placing a graphic painting beside floral print curtains at her new home, or wearing a blue bob wig with an Indian kaftan for a party, it just works. “I am a firm believer of vintage hand-me-downs and giving items a second life,” the retail maven says.

The lady is a maximalist, if that’s not obvious yet; a great believer in the more you layer, the better.

I pick a mismatched collection of things, and yet somehow it all works

This philosophy essentially informs the look she conjures for STU, where her official title is retail consultant and purveyor of home finds.

Marchadesch is involved in all aspects of the e-commerce business in the six-year-old company – which involves planning and developing merchandise as well as constant collaborations with her suppliers.

This former corporate warrior (she managed designer beauty brands for many years) says she’s always been fascinated with home decor, but it’s only been in the last few years that she has been able to mine her interest.  “I do a lot of junking – or thrifting – so that’s the same process I use in choosing items for retail,” she says.

When asked how she curates STU merchandise, she explains: “I pick a mismatched collection of things, and yet somehow it all works. Or at least I hope it does.”
